Village Travel was set up and is jointly owned by Dave, Jennie, Clare and Tara.
Between them, they have provided travel services to people in and around Cheam since 1981. They set up Village Travel in February 2013.
My first job in travel was at Solent Travel who operated within Ely’s Department Store in Wimbledon.
From there I moved to Park Travel (taken over by Renwicks Travel) in Epsom where in 1974 I was promoted to manager of that office.
In 1978 I started up Jetstar Travel in Ewell Village where I worked as manager until 1981 when I became a part owner and Managing Director for the first time and opened up Travel World as a new Company with two sleeping partners.
After 10 years in a management buyout I became a joint owner with one other director and it remained this way until 2010 when Travel World was taken over by Ambassador Travel but I continued working at the office in Cheam as manager.
Ironically Ambassador ceased trading in January 2013 and along with Jennie, Clare and Tara we set up Village Travel as equal partners and opened the office 01 February.
Over the years I have been lucky to travel to many places worldwide but my biggest affection is for the Far East and Africa. I still have ambitions to travel and South America is an area that I would love to explore, my only other visit to that continent being Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, which was amazing.
Ever since I was small I always knew I wanted to work in travel - at that time I wanted to be an air hostess!!
I studied Travel and Tourism as an NVQ at 6th Form and then went to college to study Travel and Tourism as a B-Tec National diploma which I passed with Distinction. My first job in travel was in 1996 with an independent agency in Carshalton Beeches called Suncity Travel. I really loved my job and was lucky enough to travel to Mauritius whilst I was there.
In 2002 I decided I wanted a new challenge and left there to work for Virgin Atlantic. I worked in reservations/customer service and really enjoyed my time there. I managed to get to New York twice and absolutely loved it.. The whole buzz of the place is amazing!!
I left Virgin in 2004 and went to work for Travelworld as a business travel consultant. It was a local agency and a lot easier for me as I had 2 young children. I loved my job and learnt so much during this time. Travelworld was taken over in 2010 and I continued to work there doing both business and retail bookings.
We were shocked to come into work in January 2013 to be told that Ambassador travel was being put into liquidation.. After a day of not quite knowing what to do, the 4 of us (Dave, Jennie, Tara and myself) put our heads together and decided that the shop had to carry on.. we are in a great location and have great clients, none of us could walk away from it. So on the 1st February we opened our doors as Village Travel. It is the best thing we could of done and we are all extremely proud of the fact that the agency is now our own !
I have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places during my time in travel but my most favourite place in the World is Fuerteventura.. I love the beaches and the laid back way of life. I hope to be lucky enough one day to have a holiday home there!!
I started working in travel in 1997 for Going Places as a trainee but soon worked my way up to Assistant Manager. I then went on to work for an independent agency in New Malden and then on to Suncity Travel in Carshalton Beeches, where I met Clare. Whilst working at Suncity I was lucky enough to go a few educational's and visited so many wonderful places including India, America, Norway, Hungary, Croatia, Greece and Turkey to name a few!
I got a call from Clare when a position became available at Travel World in 2004. I loved Travel World from the moment I started as it was a much busier shop and I learnt so much more about both retail and business travel. I was offered more educational's and visited Kenya, Seychelles, Morocco and Mexico.
Travel World was taken over in 2010, I continued to work there with Clare and Dave and Tara joined us towards the end of the year just as I jetted off to Australia on yet another educational. Further educational's to Bermuda, Antigua and St Lucia followed!
When Ambassador was put into liquidation we were all completely shocked, the shop was always busy and remained so...it was the best decision we all made together to take over the shop and become co-owners. I am immensely proud that the shop is our own and that we are doing so well. Village Travel is a great shop, in a brilliant location with wonderful clients and of course fabulous co-directors!! I've already been on another educational too, this time to Cyprus!!
I am lucky that I have visited so many wonderful places...but my most favourite place to visit has to be America although you can't beat the beaches of the Seychelles either!!
I started in travel after leaving school in 1994 where I started as a trainee with Lunn Poly in their YTS scheme for 3 years and then went on to work for Co-op Travelcare in New Malden as Assistant Manager, Travel Agents Travel Club in Twickenham and Barwell Leisure in Chessington.
I started at Ambassador Travel in November 2010 where I have been working with Jennie, Dave and Clare ever since and as a team we all get on great and work well together. When the opportunity came up to carry on the business as the four of us it was a no brainer and the best decision I've ever made.
I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity as the last addition to the team and have been very fortunate to have visited so many wonderful places in the world during my career including Dubai, Mauritius, Maldives and many Caribbean Islands as well as Europe and America.
It really is the best job ever.
I started working in Travel in 1995 for Going Places after leaving school, working my way up from a trainee to a sales consultant within my first year.
In 1997 I went to work for an independent agency in New Malden, I was there for 10 years before leaving to raise my family.
I’ve enjoyed travelling throughout Europe, visiting all the Canary Islands, Greece, Cyprus & Switzerland. Now my holidays are very much chosen by the children, we’ve enjoyed weekends away at Disneyland Paris and various Haven parks around the UK.
I’m really enjoying being back in travel after my break, it’s great to be part of the Village Travel team.
